We are delighted to share the highlights from the AsiaSafe Optimization Webinar Series, which recently concluded after several months of rich discussion, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing across the Asian Oceanian region.
This latest series (Part II), held from June–November 2025, focused on Enhancing Optimization Strategies in Radiological Practice, emphasizing modality-based optimization and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Radiologists, technologists, and medical physicists are equally important key people who make optimization happen and ensure it is sustainable in real clinical practice. Their partnership and active engagement were critical to the success of this series.
This effort builds upon Part I of the AsiaSafe Webinar Series (January–May 2024), which centered on Diagnostic Reference Levels and Dose Index Registry (DRL): What, Where, When, Why, and How? Together, the two series form a comprehensive educational pathway aimed at improving imaging practices and radiation safety across the region.
A Region-Wide Conversation on Optimization
Throughout Part II, expert speakers led discussions on practical topics such as:
- Protocol refinement
- Dose management
- Workflow improvement
- Equipment considerations
- Real-world implementation examples across diverse clinical environments
Participants from multiple countries contributed actively, enriching the conversations with diverse perspectives.
Key Themes from the Series
- Harmonizing imaging practices to enhance patient safety and diagnostic accuracy
- Practical pathways for implementing optimization strategies in different resource settings
- The essential role of radiologists, technologists, and medical physicists as equally important key contributors to making optimization happen and sustaining it
- The importance of continuous education, collaboration, and leadership in supporting long-term quality improvement
Webinar Series Finale: “Turning Optimization into Action”
Our final session emphasized how to bring optimization strategies from discussion into real practice. Faculty shared institutional experiences, highlighting successes, barriers, and how improvements were sustained over time.
A central message from the finale: true optimization relies on three interconnected pillars:
- Communication — open and ongoing dialogue across all imaging team members
- Education — continuous learning to ensure confidence and competence in optimized practices
- Continuity — sustained, long-term effort with ongoing review and refinement
These principles, supported equally by radiologists, technologists, and medical physicists, will continue to guide sustainable optimization efforts across the region.

AsiaSafe remains committed to advancing radiation protection, optimization, and quality improvement throughout Asian Oceania region. We look forward to continuing this collaboration and building on the foundation set by both Part I and Part II of our webinar series.
